Over 7,000 Scouts and leaders join Philippine Regional Jamboree

Over 7,000 Scouts flocked to the Ilian Hills of Iriga City in the Philippines for the 5th One Southern Luzon Regional Jamboree from 22-27 November 2016. Five challenging modules were prepared for Scouts to conquer: Module 1 on Emergency Preparedness, Module 2 on Global Development Village, Module 3 on World Scout Environment Programme, Module 4 on Challenge Valley, and Module 5 on Back to Basics.
 
Speaking on behalf of the Regional Director J. Rizal C. Pangilinan, the Adult Resources and Administration Director Thian Hiong-Boon said that Jamboree provides an opportunity for Scouts and volunteers develop brotherhood through sharing of ideas and experiences, and it also fostering friendship and enhancing knowledge and skills through camplife and practicing the Scout Method.
 
Boy Scouts of the Philippines National President Wendel E. Avisado said in his opening remarks that the central role of Scouting is to provide education to young people not to fall into drug abuse. Meanwhile, Secretary General Rogelio S. Villa Jr. shared that he believed in the extraordinary power of Scouting to be a potent force for good in the community and also in the lives of many young people.

This week-long Jamboree was to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Iriga City Council. Others came and reminisced their Scouting adventures included the gathering of Eagle Scouts from Southern Luzon; and the Wood Badge Reunion with over 300 Wood Badgers with several Scout Leaders received their training parchments.
