Ebola Response Project from Scouts of Liberia
“Not all heroes wear a cape, some wear a Scout scarf”
Liberia – The Liberia Scout Association, with its increasing effort to help apprise the menace of Ebola virus, will launch a nationwide Ebola Prevention and Eradication Project. About 75 Scouts including Scout leaders trained for Ebola combat will embark on an 8-hour daily service to facilitate campaigns on Ebola information, prevention, and its eradication.
The implementation of the said project is empowered by a USD10,500 donation from the Government of Republic of China (Taiwan). The grant was made possible through the concerted efforts of the General Scouts Association of China and Liberia Scout Association. The project will start on 25 January 2015 in 15 highly affected counties of Liberia over a three-month period.
In the latest World Health Organization (WHO) situation summary, there has been an apparent slowdown on the cases of Ebola in the first two weeks of 2015. Despite this decline, the dissemination of Ebola preventive measures is still a major issue. Prevention is better than cure, thus, the Liberia Scout Association is calling out for support from all National Scout Organizations, other NGOs, and the international community to join forces in mobilizing Scouts to fight against the deadly virus.
The Ebola epidemic has taken thousands of lives and caused tremendous emotional pain to our brothers and sisters in West Africa. This is a call to our Scout Promise - “duty to others” - and Liberia Scouts stand true to that Promise.
