The World Scout Youth Forum begins

Today at 8:30 AM, marked the opening of the 11th World Scout Youth Forum in Blumenau, Brazil. Attended by over 160 participants representing more than 60, at present, countries this long awaited event is the first important institutional event in the Scout Calendar of this year. Also auspiciously it lands in the very year that was also declared by the UN as the International Year of Youth but also it falls during the celebration of the UN International Year of Volunteering +10.

As the young people coming from around the globe fill in the Forum venue, they look forward to discussing issues that challenge not only young people in Scouting but issues that concern them as today’s youth. Mario Diaz, Vice Chairman of the World Scout Committee, also attending the Youth Forum had the opportunity to address the participants during the opening ceremony.

In the coming days, the participants will explore different subjects related to Youth Empowerment and Scouting as a World Wide Movement. Additionally, the participants will be looking into issues pertinent to the Movement, such as assessing the Youth Programme and analysing the structure and governance of the World Organization of the Scout Movement. They will also be looking objectively at the Movement as it stands today; its achievements and its areas for improvement, all this culminating in recommendations that will be presented to the 39th World Scout Conference, which is poised to begin in Curitiba, Brazil on 10th January.
