Burundian Scouts Support Victims of Gender Based Violence

2 minutes

Four Burundian local Scout groups celebrated Africa Scout Day by making donations to support victims of gender based violence at Seruka Centre in Bunjumbura. The Scouts from Saint Gautier, Charles de Foucauld, La Colombe and Trone de la Grance Scout Groups gave a donation of sanitary pads, body lotion, soap and clothing to women who are victims of different types of violence supported by the Centre.

This donation came from a fundraising gala organized by Girls Scouts and Women from the 4 groups under the theme «Scouting and Honour to Women». About 100 Scouts from different groups around Bujumbura and the National Team attended the gala and contributed for the Centre. Other community members also contributed to the cause.

The groups used this opportunity to educate Scouts on gender-based violence through discussions, with the aim of fostering support for girls and women who are victims of sexual violence in the community. This was part of their commemorative activities to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Africa Scout Day on 13th March 2020.
