Africa Scout Day International Camp opens with a call for Scouts to learn and have fun

The Africa Scout Day and the International Scout Camp 2018 was officially opened. Scouts from all over Africa and beyond have gathered in Harare, Zimbabwe to mark the Africa Scout Day under the theme "Uniting young people through Scouting."

In his welcome remarks, Mr Christopher Bwanali, the Chief Commissioner of the Zimbabwe Scout Association extended a warm welcome to all participants and guests to feel at home. Welcome - “Titambire mauya”

The Chairman of the Africa Scout Committee, Dr. Davis Adrian Wayne who was also the guest of honour expressed his joy for being part of the celebrations this year in Zimbabwe. He reminded the participants that the Africa Scout Day is an important recognition of the good work of Scouting.

Expanding on the theme of the Africa Scout Day, “Uniting young people through Scouting”, Davis invited all young people to unite through;
Active citizenship: Scouts are called to be active citizens by taking initiatives in order to create a better world around them. He inserted that “Scouts are born to lead”.
Community service: Scouts need to get involved in community development initiatives. We should make the world better for ourselves and others (the community) around us.
Manifestation of Scout values: We need to stand by and defend these values. Our day to day life should reflect our Scout Values around the Promise and Scout Law.

Dr. Davis also stated that, "today, the world needs Scouting like never before. Therefore, let us all become active citizens, intentional about community service and live by the Scout values." 
As leaders, their commitment is to ensure that all Scouts have a safe environment for young people to do Scouting.

In his remarks, the Africa Regional Regional Director, Mr. Frederic T. Kama-Kama urged all participants to make friends, learn, network and have fun as they celebrate the Africa Scout Day and take part in the International Scout Camp in the beautiful Ruwa Scout Camp. Frederic also advised adults and leaders to ensure this camp remains a safe environment for the over 500 participating young people from Angola, Botswana, Ethiopia, Malawi, Tanzania, South Africa and Zimbabwe. An additional 18 participants from 14 countries are also in Harare taking part in the 3rd Africa Scout Communications Forum at ZESA National Training Centre.
