Gone Home: Bronze Wolf J.F. “Jack” McCracken
John Findlay (Jack) McCracken was a former member of the International Relations Committee, Scouts Canada. He was instrumental in getting Canadian Scouting actively involved in supporting the development of the Movement in other countries. Jack established closer ties with other associations and partners through his initiatives on community development projects throughout the Interamerican Scout Region. He spearheaded youth development activities, agricultural farm and garden programmes, and training of Scout professionals and volunteers.
Through his encouragement, Canadian Scouts, Venturers, and Rovers have actively participated in World Scout Jamborees, bringing a new vision of international Scouting closer to grassroots levels.
Jack McCracken also chaired the Resolutions Committee at three World Scout Conferences and was influential in establishing procedures for the work of the committee.
Gone home peacefully at age 91, Jack McCracken will be remembered for his significant contribution to international Scouting. He made the Scout Law a living experience for members of his own association and their partners, enabling them to experience better Scouting and thus a better life.
A Bronze Wolf Award recipient in 1999, the highest recognition given to Scout Leaders for their outstanding service to World Scouting, Jack has certainly left this world a little better than he found it. He passed away on 22 June 2015 at his retirement home in Embassy West, Ottawa, Canada.
