JOTA-JOTI 2014 — Our Largest Scouting Event

Not everyone can make the trek to the World Scout Jamboree, nor can everyone attend his or her national Jamboree. But nearly everyone can participate in Jamboree on the Air and Jamboree on the Internet (JOTA-JOTI).
Through JOTA-JOTI, Scouts are introduced to radio technology, the Internet, and to other Scouts around the world. They get a chance to talk with one another and share information that broadens their perspective on other cultures, geography, and the technology that enables their communication. It truly brings the Scouting world together as no other event can.
The 2014 Jamboree on the Air (JOTA) and Jamboree on the Internet (JOTI) in their 57th and 18th year of operation respectively, saw over 1.3 million Scouts and Guides communicate with one another across town and around the world.
JOTA uses amateur radio for communication. At the 2014 event, nearly 20,000 licensed amateur radio operators put almost 12,000 stations on-the-air using state-of-the-art technology as well as a wide variety of other forms of communication – from Morse code to satellite communication, even bouncing radio signals off the moon.
JOTI uses the Internet for communication. Last year, just over 19,000 locations were in operation using Skype, Internet message boards and a wide variety of social media.
JOTA-JOTI is always held on the third weekend of October. For 2015, the dates are 16 to 18 October.
The theme for this year is “The Earth is Yours”. Watch out for some great games and activities for this year's event, which is designed to limit environmental impact by using environmentally friendly batteries, solar panels and more.
