What does peace mean to you?
“The whole intention of the Boy Scouts training is for peaceful citizenship.” – Baden-Powell
Since its inception in 1907, the Scout Movement has inspired billions of its members to work towards a better and more peaceful world. Through its Messengers of Peace programme, Scouts have been creating waves of positive change in their communities, countries, regions and even the world.
They are taking action on problems ranging from environmental degradation, violence in the streets, the lack of food, the lack of health awareness, bullying in schools to engaging in conflict resolution and recovery efforts.
At the Better World Tent of the 23rd World Scout Jamboree that is taking place in Kirara-hama, Yamaguchi, Japan, Scouts are exposed to the different and inspiring options the Scout Movement offers to young people.
Some 150 Scouts have been selected to participate in the Special Peace programme – the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Ceremony, which is taking place tomorrow. They will join attendees from Hiroshima city as they pray for the victims of the nuclear bombing, and for peace in the world.
