Singapore: Camp Possible 2013

Some 550 young members of the Singapore Scout Association (SSA) including those youths with special needs participated in the first ever integrated camp to promote inclusiveness; intergenerational bonding and community integration.

Held at Sarimbun Scout Camp, the historic camp was officiated by Mr. Chan Chun Sing, Minister for Social and Family Development on 17 November. The camp was designed to combine the usual camp for Scouts with a typical camp for Extension Scouts and special-needs youths, thus facilitating the playing and learning together among the special-needs youths alongside other physically stronger participants.

Mr Tan Cheng Kiong, Chief Commissioner and Camp Chief, said, “Camp Possible aims to allow special needs kids to realise that they have potentials far beyond their own imagination. Everything is Possible, if we strive towards it. My hope is that all special needs kids, whether they are scouts or not, will be given opportunities like these”.

The National Council of Social Services (NCSS), Singapore Kindness Movement (SKM) and FairPrice Foundation were the strategic partners, strongly supporting SSA in this value-based educational experience.
