Georgian Scouts Team up with Red Cross to Help Citizens of Samegrelo

Since the onset of the COVID-19 disease, the Georgian Scouts in Samegrelo Region have been actively involved in the fight against the virus through cooperation they have with the Red Cross Society of Georgia. Together, they distributed information brochures to the population on how to take preventive measures. Scouts have also trained volunteers involved in the efforts, who include local government officials in the region.

The Scouts along with Red Cross volunteers are helping at-risk citizen groups with food and hygiene items. They are also taking care of self-isolated citizens and delivering donated products at home while observing social distancing measures. They have so far helped more than 50 families through a challenge for local businesses that helped raise donations of food and hygiene items.

Despite inadequate resources, the Scouts are actively helping citizens of Samegrelo with great enthusiasm and Scout readiness. They are committed to contributing in whatever ways they can to the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic and plan more activities even as they get ready with their summer season projects.

Since the outbreak of Covid-19, Scouts around the world have been responding to the needs of their communities on an individual and group level from awareness-raising to deliveries of essential items. World Scouting set up a Covid-19 Emergency Response Fund, where you can donate to help Scouts continue supporting their communities in need. All funds will be channelled directly to support National Scout Organizations.
