Take Action against Climate Change in Japan

Scout Association of Japan has been participating in “Challenge 25 Campaign”, the campaign against climate change promoted by the Ministry of the Environment. Scouts of all over Japan participate in various activities for reducing greenhouse gas emissions, which aims to appeal Global Warming Countermeasures. These activities have started on 20 September 2010, “the Scout day of Japan”, when all the Japanese Scouts serve the communities through environmental protection and beautification activities. Through these activities, Scouts learn, plan and act what they can do to cope with Global Warming.

The Challenge 25 Campaign is a national campaign of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 25% by 2020 from 1990 levels, which has been promoted by Japanese Government since 14 January 2010. Through this campaign, the Ministry of the Environment proposes national people to tackle with how to reduce CO2 emissions through 6 challenges including Eco-friendly life and conservation in energy use. Scout Day, which began in 1990, is to contribute to their local communities through Environmental beautification activities.

The programme of the day has been implemented by Scouts and leaders throughout Japan all together, on the 3rd Monday of September every year. In line with the theme of the day “I love the Earth”, Scout Association of Japan has devoted to various Scouting activities undertaken by Scouts and leaders with the aim of environment protection and serving the community.
