ISTs gear up for the 26th APR Scout Jamboree

The 26th Asia Pacific Regional Scout Jamboree activities has already begun for close to 700 Scout leaders and volunteers, serving as International Service Staff (ISTs), from 13 countries around the world took part in the IST orientation held in the afternoon of 26th December 2009, as part of the most-awaited 26th Asia-Pacific Regional Scout Jamboree at Mt. Makiling, Laguna Province, Philippines.

ISTs are consist of a mix of Scout leaders, young and old, who volunteer their services to the regional jamboree in the area of programme of activities, food and catering, crisis management, traffic and security, health and sanitation, risk and safety, Public Relations, among others.They considered to be the backbone of the jamboree.

Countries represented in the IST are Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Scouts of China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, United Kingdom, Germany and USA.

This IST orientation is one of the preparatory activities for the seven-day jamboree by providing challenging and adventurous Scout activities for young people who are between 12 to 17 years old.

The jamboree will be in full swing on the 28th December 2009 for its grand opening in the afternoon to be held at the grand arena. The Guest of Honor will be Vice President of the Philippines Noli De Castro. The Regional Scout Chairman Jejomar Binay will formally declare the Jamboree open, which will be attended by no less than 12,000 Scouts, including 2,000 overseas Scouts.
