Scouts take action on food self-sufficiency at Indonesia Jamboree 2026

Nearly 28,000 Scouts came together for the 12th National Jamboree of Indonesia (Jamnas XII 2026), bringing young people from across the country together around a shared focus: building skills, taking action, and becoming more self-reliant in support of food self-sufficiency.

Held from 13–20 August at the Pramuka Camping and Tourism Centre in Cibubur, East Jakarta, the Jamboree was organised by the National Scout Council of Indonesia (Gerakan Pramuka) under the theme, “Creating, Innovating, Developing Skills and Building Independence to Support Food Self-Sufficiency.”

Across eight days, Scouts took part in a wide range of activities, from Scout skills and adventure to digital and Scout forums, community service, and the Food Self-Sufficiency Village, where they explored integrated farming and practical approaches to food production. 

At the heart of these activities was the Scouting’s principle: learning by doing. 

By trying new things, solving problems and working together, Scouts gain the confidence, skills and independence to take action in their communities.

One of the key milestones of the Jamboree was the launch of the Center of Excellence for Training and Education in Global Integrated Farming, established through a collaboration between Gerakan Pramuka and the Indonesian Farmers Harmony Association.

The Centre builds on the Jamboree’s focus on practical skills and food self-sufficiency, creating opportunities for young people to learn more about integrated farming and develop skills they can apply in their own communities.

This also reflects the call from Chief of the National Scout Council of Indonesia Budi Waseso for Scouts to turn what they learn into action — caring for the environment, understanding the food potential within their communities, and building skills in agriculture, livestock, fisheries, appropriate technology, food processing and entrepreneurship.

Throughout the Jamboree, activities were delivered in line with the Safe from Harm approach, helping create a safe and supportive environment where Scouts could learn, explore and connect.

For the Scouts who took part in Jamnas XII, the Jamboree is only the beginning. 

The skills, ideas and experiences they gained can now be carried forward — at home, in their communities and wherever they can make a difference.
