"It is inspiring and heartwarming to see the bravery and resilience that the Mexican Scouts have brought to their communities after the earthquake. I joined today to convey the support and solidarity on behalf of 50 million Scouts around the world", said Alhendawi.

Over 16 support centres in the capital city of Mexico are supported by Scouts, offering aid to thousands of affected families. According to the Scouts of Mexico, no Scouts have been reported among the victims but several Scouts have lost their homes as a result of the earthquake. Some of the Rover Scouts who have lost their homes have also joined the relief efforts, stressing that they would like to be assets to their country in this difficult time.

The ongoing support offered by the Scouts have been widely recognised by the local authorities and international relief agencies. The head of the Mexican Institute for Youth, Mr Jose Romero, praised the efforts of the Scouts and stressed the importance of the values and skills that the Scout Movement offers to young people.

In parallel to the ongoing relief efforts, WOSM continues to facilitate a fundraising effort through the Scout Donation Platform . It is foreseen that the funds raised will be directed to the reconstruction of homes for the affected families in the coming weeks.
