Following the sudden and devastating explosion at the port of Beirut on 4 August 2020, the Scouts of Lebanon emerged quickly among the first responders supporting relief efforts. The explosion resulted in more than one hundred fatalities, thousands of injuries and left more than 300,000 people homeless.

The Lebanese Scouting Federation immediately issued a message to Scout Associations, requesting prompt intervention to assist in recovery efforts, including transporting the wounded, donating blood, accommodating families in need and helping repair damages and remove debris in downtown Beirut. Scout Leaders and Rovers responded to the call to action the morning after the incident.

In Beirut, Scouts could be seen offering first aid, shelter, food and water to those in need. Scouts collected food donations and setup outdoor cooking stations to prepare meals and other food for volunteers and people in need. Some members have been helping search for missing people under the rubble.

The Federation’s Disaster and Risk Management Committee held an emergency meeting to ensure a quick and coordinated response to the disaster. World Scouting continues close coordination with the Lebanese Scouts and an urgent financial support will be made available through the World Scout Foundation to support relief efforts.

Scouts around the world are keeping their friends in Beirut in their thoughts as they overcome this traumatic event. Show your support by helping Lebanese Scouts continue their relief efforts! Click here to donate.
