Our culture and heritage give us a sense of pride. To a large extent, they define who we are and unite members of our communities. Unfortunately, they are fast disappearing. In some countries, this is caused by rapid urbanisation, declining population, the lack of interest among the younger generation, and many other factors.
Scouts have always stepped up for positive causes, be it the protection and preservation of the environment, supporting refugee, or peacebuilding in communities. Considering that the stories of our nations are slowly vanishing, what better way to serve your community than by becoming a heritage guardian? Here’s where the Patrimonito Scout Badge comes in.
Both the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM) and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) hope to create a future where young people are empowered with the knowledge to protect the heritage of the world.
Through the World Scouting-UNESCO World Heritage Recognition Programme, Scouts who successfully complete both the Scouts of the World Award (SW Award) Discovery and Voluntary Service projects at any of the UNESCO World Heritage properties worldwide will receive both the Patrimonito Scout badge and the SW Award.
