Chatsworth Scout Troop participate in Enduro

The Chatsworth Scout Troop, a troop, which forms part of Scouts South Africa, recently, took part in a 24hour cycle endurance race. The ‘Enduro’, as it is commonly referred to by the local Scouting fraternity, took place over the weekend of the 7th and 8th of December 2013.
The Chatsworth troop, based at the Nelson Mandela Chatsworth Youth Centre, since its inception in 2011, put forward a team consisting of four Scouts: Nivolan Naidoo (13 years old), Decklyn Nadarajan (13 years old), Naslin Francis (15 years old) and Rajeev Bagwandeen (17 years old).
It was the first time that the troop had participated in the annual event, hosted by the Stainbank Scout District and held at the Natal Mounted Rifles Headquarters, in Durban. The Enduro, involves the various troops of Scouts competing against each other and trying to accomplish as many laps as possible within a 24hour period.
The 2013 edition of the event involved 15 Scout troops from different areas, including the Malvern Scout Troop, Yellowwood Park Scout Troop and the 58th Durban Air Scout Troop. The Chatsworth troop put on a valiant event cheered on by their parents and supporters and ultimately placed second at the event, covering a total of 297.5 kilometers.
All Scouts had a great amount of fun at the event, shared laughs and learnt the value of keeping physically fit and sport. The lesson learnt by all at the event is that with planning, determination and desire any goal can be accomplished.
