At the service of Scouting in Africa: ARO conducts special planning meeting

NAIROBI - The World Scout Bureau, Africa Regional Office (ARO) team held a special meeting in Nairobi from 21 to 29 January, 2009. This forum was chaired by the Acting Regional Director (ARD), Winston Adams. In attendance was the Geneva-based, Anne Whiteford, in her capacity as the Desk Officer for the Africa Region. All ARO Unit Managers were also involved in the week-long activity.
High on the agenda was the upcoming Africa Scout Summit and the Africa Scout Conference to be held this year. Other items on the agenda included among many others: The triennial plan for Scouting in Africa (2008 -2011), financial matters, support to NSOs (National Scout Organizations), the U - Fund (Universal Fund for Scouting), possible sub-committees of the Africa Committee and the Communication strategy.
At the end, a budgeted work plan was developed, outlining tasks to be accomplished over the next three years to 2011. Four areas were identified as priorities in the proposed work-plan. These are:
1.Governance/constitution
2.Adult resources
3.Management
4.Profile and growth

The Africa Scout Summit (Kenya, 16 - 20 April 2009)
The Africa Scout Conference and Youth Forum (Botswana, 26 August - 4 September 2009).
