14th Africa Regional Conference ends: another milestone for the region

The 14th Africa Scout Conference beat all odds to become yet another important milestone for the Region. From Monday 9th to Thursday 12th November 2009, the event brought together 134 people. The conference took place at Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons, in Accra. Earlier, the 5th Africa Scout Youth Forum had taken place successfully from 4th to 6th November 200, at Tills No. 1 Beach Hotel.

Participants included officials of NSOs (National Scout Organizations), members of the Africa Scout Committee, Africa Scout Foundation, World Scout Committee, guests and the World Scout Bureau staff. Out of 37 African NSOs, 27 participated while others were represented by proxy. Guests came from various countries such as Sweden, Brazil, Japan, Finland and Saudi Arabia. In addition, organizations like ICCS and ISGF were also represented.

Speakers included, among others, WOSM’s Secretary General, Mr. Luc Panissod, members of the World Scout Committee, Mr. Nkwenkwe Nkomo and Mr. John Neysmith, local leaders and the new Regional Director Mr. Frederic T. Kama-Kama.

Delegates had an opportunity to conduct in-depth analyses of different thematic issues through highly participatory workshops that were organized by Anne Whiteford from the Central Office in conjunction with Staff from ARO.
