Hurricane Otis, which struck near the popular resort of Acapulco, left in its wake a path of destruction. With at least 43 people losing their lives and many more reported missing, the scale of the disaster was truly overwhelming. Almost 80 per cent of the infrastructure of the city was estimated to have been demolished. The storm's fierce winds and torrential rains had left a trail of destruction, transforming vibrant neighbourhoods into scenes of despair.

Scouts in Guerrero set up on-the-ground operations to directly assist citizens. Armed with first aid knowledge, they attend to people in need, distribute clean water and nourishment to those stranded, and aid in the challenging task of clearing debris to make way for rescue teams.

Scouts of Mexico from various provinces joined forces with the Mexican Red Cross, to gather essential supplies for the hurricane's victims. They collected food, water, clothing and medical provisions, providing vital aid to those in need.

Utilizing the Scout Donation Platform, Scouts de Mexico and the Interamerican Scout Region have initiated a regional fundraising appeal to bolster relief efforts. In support of these initiatives, the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM) and the World Scout Foundation (WSF) have also allocated an emergency funding grant of USD 4,000 to Scouts de Mexico.

Each and every donation, big or small, has the power to significantly impact the lives of those who have been affected by this destructive hurricane.
