Pakistan boosts training of leaders
After a dry spell of eight years in the area of Course for Leader Trainers, an oasis of renewed energy emerged when a new batch of 39 participants took part in the 6th National Course for Leader Trainers of Pakistan Boy Scouts Association (PBSA). This course took place at the Scouts Global Village in Islamabad, Pakistan.
“Scouting is one of the best ways to serve humanity”, said Tariq Pirzada, Chief Scout of Islamabad Boy Scouts Association, while addressing the participants at the closing ceremony.
He continued on to say that success has some values but real success can be achieved by doing things right. As Chief Scout, he vowed to support an exemplary Scouting in Islamabad. “The biggest responsibility on my shoulder is to provide young people a safer and cleaner environment”, he said. APR Scout Committee member Pervez Shah Ali Jillani officiated the course opening on 22nd February with Asia-Pacific Regional Director Abdullah Rasheed, while PBSA National Secretary Ali Yemeen Qureshi graced the opening and closing functions.
Thirty-nine participants came from nine out of ten provinces in Pakistan. Course modules used primarily the World Adult Resources Handbook with modification to suit the needs of PBSA. Sessions included Scouting knowledge, training skills, adult learning skills, leadership skills and personal development skills.
PBSA Acting Director of Training and Programme Mr Zahid Mahboob managed the event effectively as the course leader. A combined local and overseas training team shared their wealth of experience and expertise – Dr B D Sharma from India and Prof. Mozahid Hossain from Bangladesh, with Thian Hiong Boon from Asia-Pacific Regional office as full-time coordinator and Prassanna Shrivastava, also from the APR office, as trainer. Their local counterparts were course trainers Mian Nazeem Zahur, Aftab A Qureshi, Abdul Mannan, and Munir Ahmed.
So finally the long-awaited training course happened and wrapped up successfully on the 1st of March.
