Recently Trained Regional GSAT Facilitators to Champion for Quality Assured Scouting in Africa
The World Scout Bureau Africa Support Centre (WSB Africa), within the auspices of delivering Quality Assured Scouting (QAS) in the Africa recently conducted a regional training for Global Support Assessment Tool (GSAT) facilitators from 23 African National Scout Organizations (NSOs) in Nairobi, Kenya from 6-10 July 2016. The facilitators will now work with the World Scout Bureau Staff and Regional and Global Support Team volunteers to assist NSOs towards conforming with best practices in governance and management on the path to attaining GSAT certification. Having also been trained as a core pool of volunteers, their scope of engagement would also entail offering tailor made support to NSOs whenever called upon.
The excitement, enthusiasm and desire exhibited by this core team of volunteers is so amazing as expressed in some of the words below:
Walu (from Malawi) says, "GSAT is the only method to make our NSO's vibrant in management towards a better Scouting.”
Emmanuel (from Angola) says, "Training does not enable a person to be exactly what he was trained to be… its doing that makes you qualified”
Eric (from Kenya) puts it that, "We have a great task ahead of us. May be what we need is to hit the road running. How about an action plan? I pray that all NSOs represented are positively inclined towards being ‘GSATted’”.
Armand (from Benin) says, “Thank you all for committing to strong Scouting in Africa.”
Mathias (member, Africa Scout Committee) says, “Watching heartily how brothers and sisters is Scouting are pulling down the language barrier to support each other to develop Scouting.”
At the closure of the training, the Regional Director, Frederic Tutu Kama-Kama, observed that Africa was a pioneer of GSAT through the initial SGS process, which has now become a global Scouting tool for quality certification. Mr. Marcel Blaguet, a member of the World Scout Committee who was in attendance implored upon the participants to utilize the tool to improve Scouting and to be proud that Africa has shown the way to transforming the management of Scouting globally. Ms. Kegapilwe Omphemetse, who spoke on behalf of the participants, said that, “The participants have committed themselves to serve appropriately in their NSOs and wherever else they may be called upon to help; to make better NSOs and to bring forth positive public image of the movement; and that ultimately all NSOs in Africa will be GSAT certified.”
WSB Africa appreciates all these volunteers for their active participation in the training and for committing themselves, with great Scouting spirit, to support our NSOs towards quality Scouting in the region. We wish them well and will continue working with them to ensure positive transformation of Scouting in Africa Scout Region.
