The key objectives of the training are: (1) to introduce the concept of Global Support assessment tool, the dimensions and audit process; (2) to develop competencies and skills of GSAT facilitators and (3) to introduce the global support and prepare the participants as core team of volunteers in the region. The 4-day training is organized by the World Scout Bureau Africa Support Centre with support from the Messengers of Peace Support Fund.

Present at the training are representatives from the following NSOs: Angola, Benin, Botswana, Cape Verde, Cameroon, Comoros, Democratic Republic of Congo, Nigeria, Ghana, Guinea Bissau, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Madagascar, Malawi, Namibia, Rwanda, Senegal, Seychelles, Tanzania, Uganda and Zimbabwe.

The team of facilitators is comprised of Abir Koubaa and Brunel Etienne from World Scout Bureau Global Support Centre in Kuala Lumpur; Pieter Willems from Belgium and Maina Kiranga.

Mathias Wanyela, who opened the training on behalf of the Africa Scout Committee stressed that the aim of the training is to build capacity within the NSOs to understand and utilize the GSAT for improvement on weaknesses in management practices. He urged the participants to make the most out of the training so as to have a pool of facilitators who can offer support to NSOs within the region.

The participants are expected to play a key role in supporting their respective NSOs in handling GSAT related issues and also be available to offer support in the same line to neighbouring NSOs and the whole of the Region.
