Health Camps of Bangladesh Scouts

From 9 to 12 March 2009, with the support of the Ministry of Health and Family Planning, the Bangladesh Scouts have organised health camps for patrol leaders in 479 upzillas, 64 zillas and 4 metropolitan zillas, in order to raise the awareness of young people and local people.

About 35,500 participants have attended the 547 camps where there were trained on primary health care, nutrition, and fight against tuberculosis, leprosy, malaria, fylaria, dangue, and HIV-Aids.

During their stay, participants went from doors to doors to disseminate primary health care messages by offering posters and leaflets. On 17 March, building on their new capacities as agent of information, they promoted the same message within their own communities of scouts and students.

From her residence of Jamuna, Ms. Sheikh Hasina Wazed, the Honourable Prime Minister of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, inaugurated the Health Camps initiative through a radio and television programme. After the inauguration she ran a video conference with scouts and rover scouts located at Gopalgong.
