3 tips for the JOTA-JOTI campsite

4 minutos

JOTA-JOTI is the the biggest annual Scouting event, with millions of Scouts and Guides participating in different ways from over 150 countries! It stands for the Jamboree On The Air - Jamboree On The Internet, meaning it’s basically a giant worldwide Scout camp happening on the internet and radio waves. What an amazing way to cross borders from your home, learn new things and make new friends!

Such a huge event can be a bit overwhelming - so here are three top tips to help you make the most of the weekend:

1. Individual vs Group Registration

You can participate in JOTA-JOTI either on your own by registering individually, or by finding a local Scout group participating in JOTA-JOTI and joining their activities. See our quick registration guide.

On the JOTA-JOTI website, you’ll find the registration button in the top right corner. You’ll need to create a Scout.org account or log in to an existing one to access your account. You’ll have the option to register as an individual, as a Scout Group, or on behalf of your child (if they are under 13 years old).

You need to be logged in to access the best features, like “Challenge Valley” where you can get digital badges, “My Agenda” to build your own itinerary for the weekend, access your JID to participate for JamPuz, and get your certificate at the end of the weekend!

When you register, you’ll have the option to register as an individual if you’re a Scout (13+), on behalf your child if you’re a parent (Scouts under 13), or on behalf of your Scout Group if you’re a Scout Leader.

2. Live vs Ongoing Events

On the campsite, you’ll find a variety of different events, like sessions with guests, live shows, games, activities to try offline, and more. Some of them are ongoing, meaning these are activities you can try on your own (or with your Scout Group) at any time, and others are scheduled for a specific date and time, meaning a live facilitator will join by video to host the event.

When you click a campsite section, select “Activities” and you’ll see the list of ongoing events at the top, followed by upcoming live events sorted by date and time. Note: The times you’ll see will be listed in your local time.

We suggest you prioritize the live activities you’re most excited about and then add ongoing events to fill time in between those sessions. Some of the ongoing events include instructions for offline activities you can try at home or with your Scout Group!

Did you miss a live event? Don’t worry - you can catch replays of all live sessions within 6-12 hours of them happening. Keep in mind that we aim for a variety of sessions throughout different time zones.

Reminder: Don’t forget to take breaks! We’ve put together 5 ideas for how to take screen breaks to help you out.

3. My Agenda

While browsing the different activities, add your favourites to your personalised My Agenda page by clicking "Join event" under the activity (see screenshots below). If you change your mind, click “Attending event” to unselect it. When you register to attend an event, you’ll receive an e-mail confirmation

You can also add events to your Google, Outlook or ICS calendar by clicking "Add to calendar".

Click "Go to event page" to access content for any of your events, including Zoom links for live sessions.

We hope these tips have been helpful! Just one more thing - because you’re a Scout, be sure to be prepared and be safe online by carefully reviewing our tips on the Be Safe JOTA-JOTI page.

There’s a lot more to explore - so now that you have these tips, head to jotajoti.info and make the best of this weekend full of fun activities for you, your Scout Group, and your family to enjoy!
