100th Anniversary of Ukrainian Scouting was Celebrated in Lviv.
During 2012, Ukraine has been celebrating the 100th anniversary of Scouting. International Jubilee Scout (Plast) Meeting was held in Lviv on August, 18-24. During those six days, the scouts from all over the world were able to meet new friends, celebrate this great anniversary and try themselves in different kinds of activities.
The Meeting was attended by 2326 scouts and guests from Australia, Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Britain, Estonia, Ireland, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Germany, Poland, Russia, USA, Hungary and Ukraine.
On the 19th of August nearly a thousand of scouts marched through the Lviv City to the Taras Shevchenko Central Plaza, where the official opening ceremonies were held. After it the 390 meters and 20 centimeters rope, tied of scout scarves, was made and this record was officially registered by the representative of the National Register of Records of Ukraine.
The 20th of August was the first day of the activities, which were held in four areas: Meeting site, «Pohulianka» park, Shevchenkivskyy Garden and Zolochivskyy Castle.
Scout activity – a variety of classes that help participants to learn something new and develop new skills. The Castle of Knights from the East was the group of activities in Zolochivskyy Castle where the scouts had plunged into the atmosphere of the Middle Ages. They learned how to shoot using a bow and arrow, took part in master classes teaching the tricks of a successful fire-show, played a medieval duel, rode the horses, etc. The Country of Artists from the West was the block of activities where participants explored their creative and crafty side. They tried their hand at painting on eggshells and glass, at being a blacksmith for the day, etc. The Capital of the Braves from the North was a block of activities in the picturesque park of «Pohulianka». Cycling, shooting a slingshot and bow, rock climbing, battling some treacherous water courses – it just a few examples of extreme activities, which were held on that area. The Valey of Adventures from the South was situated, for the most part, on the territory of the camp; all participants could challenge themselves playing paintball, volleyball, football, fencing etc. A scientific tent was set up as well were very interesting intellectual games took place.
