For Laura, a 31-year-old Scout from Hungary, joining the Roverway team marked more than a personal achievement; it became a transformative experience that embodies the values of unity, leadership, and resilience that the international Scout movement strives to instil. As the Team Leader for Press and Website in the Marketing and Communications Department, Laura’s story highlights how youth-driven initiatives build leaders, bridge cultures, and address global challenges.

Laura’s journey to Roverway began as a dream. International events were previously inaccessible due to financial constraints, but through an advertisement by "Scoutisme Français," Laura saw an opportunity to volunteer. Her language skills in English and French matched the need for translators, and she soon found herself part of the Marketing and Communication Department—one step closer to a global Scouting experience.

In time, her expertise and dedication led her to become the Team Leader for the Press and Web, strengthening her commitment to empowering young leaders. This international, diverse Planning Team collaborated tirelessly over two years, conducting virtual weekly meetings and twice gathering in person to build a strong foundation for the event. This extensive preparation is the bedrock of what Laura describes as “something magical”—a once-in-a-lifetime event that leaves a lasting impact on every participant.

The true essence of Laura's experience lies in the powerful connections she formed. As a member of the IST choir, she had the honour of singing the camp song to an enthusiastic audience, bringing her courage and passion to the forefront. During the opening campfire, she led a flash mob, stepping up with confidence—a testament to Scouting's ability to foster resilience and the courage to meet challenges.

For Laura, being a Scout and Guide is about more than personal growth; it is about collective progress. She credits Scouting with building a foundation of mutual respect, inclusion, and cultural understanding that transcends national borders. As co-host of "Roverpodden," Roverway’s official podcast, Laura helped spark global discussions on issues affecting young people. Topics ranged from environmental stewardship to civic engagement, inspiring Scouts and Guides worldwide to act with purpose for a more inclusive and sustainable future.

Laura believes Scouting is about pushing through challenges, embracing teamwork, and growing together. It teaches young leaders to stand up for themselves, work in harmony, and see that "teamwork makes the dream work." For her, being a Scout goes beyond national borders; it’s about connecting with the world and shaping a better, more inclusive future.

Roverway 2024 was part of the Earth Tribe project, which aims to transform youth organisations into leaders in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The project empowers young Europeans to become active citizens driving positive change in their communities and is supported by the Erasmus+ programme.
