From local roots to global bonds: Amy’s experience at Roverway 2024

At just 18, Amy, a Scout from Malta, embarked on a journey she had dreamed of for years: participating in Roverway 2024. Inspired by the tales of older Scouts and Guides who shared their Roverway experiences with her, Amy longed for her adventure. This year, her dreams came to life on Path TR03 in the historic Norwegian town of Røros.
Amy was immediately drawn to Roverway because of its sense of community. For her, the most memorable part of the experience was getting to know her fellow participants from various countries and backgrounds. Activities such as dancing, games, and cultural exchanges quickly bridged any differences, making it easy to form meaningful connections. For Amy, this bond was not just a part of the fun but central to what made Roverway special.
After reflecting on her Scouting experience, Amy better understood its impact on her life. The Scout programme improved her leadership skills, self-confidence, and sense of belonging, further strengthened by Roverway's supportive environment. The Scout programme is more than just activities; it instils essential values that prepare young people for adulthood, fostering a sense of responsibility and unity beyond the event itself.

“What makes Scouting and Guiding unique,” Amy observed, “is how it cultivates lifelong values and a true sense of belonging.” She has seen firsthand how Scouting transforms individuals, empowering them to impact their communities positively. Through her experiences at Roverway 2024, Amy is even more convinced that Scouting is vital for change, shaping compassionate and capable leaders for a better world.
For Amy, Roverway 2024 was far more than just an event—it was a transformative journey that deepened her connection to the global Scouting movement. She returns home to Malta with cherished memories, lifelong friendships, and a renewed commitment to living by Scouting’s values. Each Scout’s story is unique, yet together, they create a tapestry of shared values, unity, and resilience, connecting people across borders.
Roverway 2024 was part of the Earth Tribe project, which aims to transform youth organisations into leaders in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The project empowers young Europeans to become active citizens driving positive change in their communities and is supported by the Erasmus+ programme.
