New approaches in the training field

In close cooperation with ARTDO International & ITD Group, the Arab Scout Region organized the Certified Training for Professional (CTP) Course during the period 15- 26/6/ 2012, Cairo International Scout Centre (CISC).
The named training course aimed at Developing the skills, competences of the Arab scout trainer of trainers who are interested in qualifying and empowering young people and scouts in their NSOs.
Some of 31 participants representing 10 Arab Scout Associations took part in the named event as follows: Jordan (3) Algeria (2) Lebanon (1) Qatar (6) Yemen (4) Oman (5) Egypt (1) Kuwait (2) Libya (2) Sudan (4) and the World Scout Bureau (1).
The course was conducted by International credited trainers including: Ms. Serely Geraldine D. Alcaraz (Vice – President, ARTDO, Int. Executive board & the Country Head of ITD Consulting Group), Mrs. Rita Goh (ARTDO, Int. Executive board; Regional Director, Asean) Ms. Mary Hing Hing Lai (a consultant).
The Program which lasted for ten days included five modules expanded on the well-accepted ADDIE model consisting of: Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation and Evaluation.
Module 1: The trainer in the organization which focused on the role of coach in the organization and skills that must be acquired, including awareness.
Module 2: Training needs assessment which focused on identifying the needs and the problem, in that module participants acquired skills in planning a system for needs assessment, development and evaluation of the statistical questionnaires and surveys, identifying causes and solutions to the problems of job performance.
Module 3: Training design which focused on data collection and analysis, asking questions and listening, the level of performance, the strategy of training and development, training as a basis for developing the skills, and determining the training process elements.
Module 4: Training implementation which focused on the logistics of training and team management, presentations skills and methods of facilitation and deal with difficult situations in which the participants were introduced to the methods of teaching and motivating adults, using of appropriate learning strategies and effective methods of experiential learning, a constructive educational activities, and role play.
Module 5: Training evaluation which is considered as the key linkage among all the previous methods. The module presented the different levels of evaluation in order to provide the theoretical basis to evaluate the training. Through which the participants gained new skills including the development of evaluation system, the distinction between the different levels of evaluation, designing and developing methods and tools to assess.
In order to ensure understanding and application of all the mentioned above skills and which the trainees should be acquired during this course, they have to present a project within 90 days after the course, in which they show and reflect their understanding and absorption of all relevant skills basing on the contents of the above 5 modules of the course. The project/s should be submitted to both the Arab Scout Regional Office & ARTDO International & ITD Group.
Lastly, all the participants expressed their interest in the named course and showed their persistence to go ahead immediately in their projects.
