WILLEMSTAD, CURAÇAO, 30 October - More than 150 Scouts from 22 countries across the Americas are gathering in Willemstad, Curaçao, for the opening of the 29th Interamerican Scout Conference, which will take place from 30 October to 2 November. The event will celebrate Scouting’s recent achievements from the past triennium and define the Interamerica Scout Region’s priorities for the next three years ahead.

Hosted by Scouting Antiano, the National Scout Organization in Curaçao, the four-day event will bring together Scout leaders and volunteers both in-person and online. Together, participants will strengthen cooperation, share ideas and expertise, and renew their collective commitment to strengthen and expand Scouting’s reach across the region.

“From the north of the Paraná to Ushuaia and Medina, at the far ends of our continent where the Scout Movement is present, we move forward towards the future with courage, responsibility and hope,” said Rubem Tadeu Perlingeiro, Chairperson of the Interamerican Scout Committee. “Today we will experience a journey full of learning, inspiration and new opportunities as a region. In the coming days, we will listen to inspiring voices, share ideas and witness the progress we have achieved as we plan our future together.”

The Interamerican Scout Conference serves as both the Region’s largest decision-making and governing body. The event is hosted every three years to review the key priorities for Scouting in Interamerica, elect members to the region’s governance, and set the strategic direction of Scouting in one of the Movement’s most culturally diverse regions which is home to 1.8 million Scouts and stretches from the frozen expanses of northernmost America to the tropical islands of the Caribbean and the vast rainforests of South America.

“This is an exciting time for our Movement. With a new Vision and Strategy guiding us, we can think boldly about the future - worldwide and particularly here in the Americas, a region that has so much potential and promise,” said Diana Carrillo, Regional Director of the Interamerica Scout Region. “With 60 million Scouts and volunteers around the globe, Scouting remains a powerful force for good united in purpose, diversity, and shared values.”

Under the theme “Dive into the Future”, this year’s Conference programme will feature plenary sessions, breakout workshops, guest speakers, and networking spaces designed to strengthen the capacity of the region’s 36 National Scout Organizations, and encourage delegates to actively collaborate and take part in decision-making.

Over the course of the event, delegates will discuss and vote on key items, including the adoption of Conference Resolutions and Amendments, the election of members to the Regional Scout Committee, and the selection of hosts for the 30th Interamerican Regional Scout Conference in 2028, the 18th Interamerican Scout Jamboree and 5th Interamerican Scout Camporee in 2029, and the 5th Interamerican Scout Moot in 2030. Beyond the formal sessions, participants will also enjoy a cultural evening and activities to promote mental health and a deeper connection with nature.

This is the first time that Curaçao has hosted a Regional Scout Conference. The island nation previously welcomed Scouts for the Caribbean Cuboree in 2010 and the Caribbean Scout Jamboree in 2014, demonstrating its continued dedication to promoting Scouting beyond its borders. Ahead of the Conference, young participants gathered for the 8th Youth Forum where they met to share their experiences, raise their concerns, and co-create a regional action agenda captured in the official declaration of the Forum.
