One of the ways that Scouts of Angola have contributed towards promoting peace is through the Messengers of Peace initiative, inspiring more than 40,000 young people to take action through local projects and community service actions across the country. From rebuilding trust in post-conflict areas to leading environmental and educational projects, Scouts have created a lasting impact to encourage peace and dialogue. Accepting the award on behalf of Scouts of Angola, Chief Commissioner Kikas Machado expressed deep gratitude stating:
" This medal, presented in the Peace and Development category, is not only a recognition of our organisation, it is a tribute to every Angolan Scout, every young person, leader, and partner who, over the past three decades, has worked tirelessly to build a better Angola through the education and empowerment of youth "

The Chief Commissioner emphasised , “We accept this honour with humility and gratitude, but also with a clear understanding that our mission is far from over. In a world that is constantly evolving, we face many pressing challenges, tackling inequality, promoting environmental sustainability, and strengthening national unity. It is in these very challenges that Angolan Scouts will continue to lead with purpose, guided by our enduring motto: Scouting for All. We remain committed to leaving the world a little better than we found it.”

Building a more peaceful and inclusive world is the core of the Scout Movement’s 10-year strategy, and this recognition in Angola is one of many examples of how Scouting is positively impacting the world by offering transformative learning experiences for young people everywhere.

Through Messengers of Peace and other educational programmes, these experiences can enable young people to grow into responsible, compassionate citizens and leaders who are  prepared to face the challenges of today, and committed to creating a more peaceful tomorrow.
