Bangladesh prepares in advance for 2012 APR Conference
The 2nd preparatory meeting for the 24th Asia-Pacific Regional Scout Conference was held at the Bangladesh Scouts National Training Center in Mouchak on 17th March 2011 under the chairmanship of Habibul Alam of the Host Organizing Committee (HOC).
Before the discussions, the group spent a moment of prayer for the victims of the recent earthquake and tsunami in Japan, including the tragic loss of a member of APR Adult Support Sub-Committee, Mr Takahashi Yusuru and his wife.
At the meeting, 16 sub-committees rendered their progress reports on the conference preparations that covered all areas from registration to accommodation, cultural events, home hospitality, safety and security and infrastructure development, among others.
Regional Director Abdullah Rasheed and Chief National Commissioner Abul Kalam Azad commended the HOC for its early planning to host around 500 conference participants.
Sheraton Hotel in Dhaka is the conference venue where 100 rooms are already blocked. The HOC also identified other economical hotels and hostels ranging from US$10 to US$70 to give options to participants. Shuttle transport will be arranged between the designated hotels and the conference venue. Complete information will be published in the next Conference Bulletin No. 2.
While preparing for an interesting pre and post education tour and accompanying persons programme, HOC is also arranging home hospitality programme for those who wish to stay longer before or after the conference.
For participants of the ancillary events -- Youth Forum and Course for Leader Trainers -- who are also attending the conference, home hospitality will be extended as inter-event activity.
Conference registration begins from January to July 2012 and forms will be available on the website, both for online and manual registration.
