Danish Scouts and Guides Climate Camp receives a Royal visit

The Danish Scouts and Guides are holding a Climate Camp throughout the two weeks of the United Nations Climate Change Conference. The aim of the camp is to highlight the importance of climate change and the need for everyone to adopt a more sustainable lifestyle. It does this by engaging adults and young people in a variety of fun, Scouting activities.

On Sunday 13th December the Climate Camp was honored by a special visit from HRH Princess Benedikte. The Princess made a tour of the camp to see the different activities on offer and then attended a special reception where she met with Scouts and Guides from all over the world. Attending the reception were the WOSM and WAGGGS delegations to the United Nations Climate Change Conference and thirty two participants of the Danish Scouts and Guides Scouts for Climate Summit.

At the reception young representatives from these groups and also from the Climate Camp spoke about the role that Scouting and Guiding has to play in tackling climate change and gave some personal experiences of how their involvement in Scouts and Guides has supported them in their life.

The Climate Camp is open to all, provides free activities and has a climate café serving hot drinks and food. It is situated in Højbro Square in central Copenhagen and is open from 10.00am to 10.00pm every day until 18th December 2009.
