Nepal Scouts mobilise leaders and volunteers following devastating flash floods

Nepal Scouts are mobilising hundreds of leaders and volunteers to support emergency relief efforts after devastating flash floods swept through northern communities on the border with Tibet last week.  

The disaster sent a powerful surge of floodwater, ice, and debris down the mountainside through parts of the Rasuwa and Nuwakot districts, destroying homes, roads, bridges and other infrastructure. Hundreds of fatalities have been confirmed, while thousands of families have been left isolated, displaced, and in need of emergency supplies.

Nepal Scouts have responded quickly, sending Rovers, Rangers, and Scout Leaders trained in disaster management and response to some of the worst-affected communities. Working alongside government teams and non-governmental organisations, Scouts are supporting search and rescue operations, emergency evacuations, transportation and logistics, and the distribution of essential supplies.

With damaged roads and bridges making many areas difficult to access, Scout teams are helping transport and deliver medical and hygiene kits, clean water, food, temporary shelter materials, water purification tablets, and other supplies to families in need. Scouts are also providing psychosocial support and setting up stations at temporary displacement centres, where they are sharing information and assisting displaced people and families.

To support ongoing flood relief and recovery efforts, the Nepal Scouts have launched the “Mobilising Hope” project and donation appeal through the Scout Donation Platform. Funds raised will help Nepal Scouts strengthen their response on the frontlines and enable trained volunteers to reach communities that remain difficult to access. Over three months, the initiative aims to reach more than 2,000 people and contribute more than 5,000 hours of community service towards the humanitarian crisis.
