Scouts D'Haiti Install Hand Washing Stations to Raise Awareness of COVID-19

As Scouts d'Haiti, we are resistant to difficulties, due to the natural frequency on facing natural disasters that occur on our island. And this time we have not been the exception.

We noted the increasing emergence of people infected with the Coronavirus (COVID-19). It was a common topic of conversation since many of our friends and family, who came from Europe had received certain warnings about it. We investigated that COVID-19 is a virus that is transmitted from person to person, through the airways, just as the WHO says:

"The disease can spread from person to person through droplets from the nose or mouth that are thrown out when an infected person coughs or exhales. These droplets fall on objects and surfaces around the person, so other people can get COVID-19 if they touch these objects or surfaces and then touch their eyes, nose, or mouth. They can also be spread by inhaling droplets that a person with COVID-19 has spread by coughing or exhaling. So it is important to stay more than 1 meter (3 feet) away from a person who is sick.” (WHO)

For this reason, as Scouts, we began an awareness campaign regarding hygiene and care that we must in order no to spread the disease any further. The starting point was the soccer match organized on Women's Day (March 8, 2020) by the Santa Teresa de Petion Ville park. In there we install hand washing stations, to raise awareness among the inhabitants of the possible contagion and how we can avoid one more tragedy in our country.

This initiative was a success, so much, that we have more than 100 committed Scouts, for going door to door in the communities of Port-au-Prince, Delmas and Petion-Ville and spread awareness. And thanks to the management of Emmanuel Paul, we will have the support of more and more Scout districts of Haiti, making a difference in their communities.
