Scouts readily respond to motorcycle accident

Scout Leaders readily responded to a motorcyclist who figured himself in a freak accident in the morning of 13 June 2018 in Nagcarlan, a small town in Laguna province, south of the Philippine capital Manila.

Carmelo B. Francia, along with his other colleagues from the Boy Scouts of the Philippines were on their way to attend to the kick-off ceremony of the World Environment Day Celebration Laguna Province when they saw a man in his mid-forties lose his balance and tumbled down while driving a motorcycle in a major thoroughfare.

“We saw everything as it happened, it was a harrowing moment for all of us. It’s something that you don’t see every day. But, more than the shock, we were worried for the rider, for his life. Our first instinct was to help, and so, we got off our vehicle and tended to the victim,” said Francia.

The victim’s left ankle was broken, and blood was pouring out continuously.

Equipped with only their first aid and emergency response training they learned as Scouts, Carmelo and his colleagues immediately assessed the situation, took off their scarves and bandaged wounded areas to prevent further blood loss. A few minutes after they tended to the victim, the emergency responders from the village came in and brought the victim to the hospital.
