Reinforcing growth with adult training in Cambodia

“To support young people, adults involved in Scouting must have full capabilities to produce effective programs and activities for Scouts. Therefore, the World Organization of the Scout Movement for adults to be trained and develop Scouting expertise,” said Chief Commissioner Tuon Siphann, who is also the Vice President of the Cambodia Scouts, during the 3-day Basic Training Course for the Leaders of Adults.

The course, held from 26-28 September in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, is supported by the APR Adult Support Sub-Committee, APR Specialists Panel and the World Scout Bureau Asia-Pacific Support Centre. With forty participants from 10 provinces, the course is designed to suit the needs of Cambodia Scouts on Scouting knowledge, leadership skills to support Youth Programme, organizational environment, management and growth.

At the opening ceremony, the Chief Scout Commissioner considered the course a milestone as it has both participants from national and provincial levels.

During the ceremony, the Assistant Leader Trainer parchment, which was conferred by the Boy Scouts of the Philippines, was presented to Deputy Chief Commissioner Em Piseth. Thian Hiong-Boon from the WSB Asia-Pacific Support Centre presented him the three beads, with other members of the training team: Dr Mak Wai-Ming (Hong Kong), Tauhidul Islam (Bangladesh), Antong Sharudin Rahmat (Singapore), Ekbert Yong (Malaysia), and Em Piseth (Cambodia).

Chief Commissioner Tuon Siphann, Vice President Kong Uok, National AIS Commissioner Tauch Cheoun, International Commissioner Sok Sabayna and APR Young Adult Member Group member from Cambodia Tan Sonimeth also participated in the course.

HE Sean Borath, the Secretary of State of Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports was present as the Chief Guest at the closing ceremony who presented the certificates to participants and staff. He is also one of the Vice-Presidents of Cambodia Scouts.
