World Scouting wishes to condemn the recent terrorist attacks in that took place in Grand Bassam beach town located about 40km east of the Côte d’Ivoire’s economic capital, Abidjan where at least 16 people lost their lives.

This is indeed very sad considering the many efforts being put in place to end violent conflicts and improve the safety and security of people in Africa.

Our deepest condolences and sympathies go out to our brothers and sister Scouts, their families and the entire Ivorian nation.

As Scouts and Messengers of Peace, we wish to reiterate our call for an end to violence and for all of us to embrace and live in harmony with each other without distinction of gender, origin, race, religious beliefs or political affiliations. We stand for a culture of peace that respects and appreciates everyone as equal and deserving of protection.

As we look forward to visiting Cote d’Ivoire for the upcoming 7th Africa Scout Jamboree in August this year, our spirit is not deterred. Our commitment to have a successful event in Yamoussoukro still stands. We are in solidarity and will continue working with the Fédération Ivoirienne du Scoutisme to ensure the successful hosting of a memorable Jamboree.

Throughout its history, Scouting has inspired its millions of members to make a difference – applying their leadership to creating a better world. This we are committed to continue doing in the pursuit of a peaceful world, where everyone can live without fear.

Joint message by Dr. Wayne Adrian Davies, Chairperson of the Africa Scout committee and Frederic Tutu Kama-Kama, Regional Director, World Scout Bureau Africa Support Centre.
