On Saturday 16 January 2016, the Scouts of Senegal (one of the NSAs that make the Senegalese Scout Confederation) officially opened their renovated centre with the compound of the Cathedral. The two-storey building of a total surface of 216 m2 was renovated with the financial support of elder scouts from the Cathedral at the cost of about CFA F 40 millions (€ 61,000). It comprises a scout section (office and storage), an office facilities area and a multipurpose conference hall.

The centre is named after Cardinal Hyacinthe Thiandoum, scout chaplain of the Province of Senegal of the French West Africa in 1955 and the first native Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Dakar in 1962. It is a legacy of the continued support of elder scouts and a sign of peaceful transition from one generation to the next.

The opening ceremony was graced by His Excellence Benjamin Ndiaye, the current Archbishop of Dakar, who led other dignitaries.
