UNESCO World Heritage Recognition Achievement at Historic Town of Sukhothai and Associated Historic Town

Historic Town of Sukhothai and Associated Historic Towns is one of the first ‪#‎UNESCO‬ World Heritage sites that will have a ‪#‎SWAward‬ project completed under the new UNESCO World Heritage Recognition Achievement.

‪#‎Sukhothai‬ was the capital of the first Kingdom of Siam in the 13th and 14th centuries. It has a number of fine monuments, illustrating the beginnings of Thai architecture. The great civilization which evolved in the Kingdom of Sukhothai absorbed numerous influences and ancient local traditions; the rapid assimilation of all these elements forged what is known as the 'Sukhothai style'.

It was the 11th SW Award Discovery in Thailand but the first SW Award Discovery under the World Scouting - UNESCO World Heritage Recognition Achievement. The SW Award Discovery was held from the 12-14 September 2015 at Sukhothai Technical College. There were 23 ‪#‎Rovers‬ that participated in the SW Award Discovery . After the group had completed some training indoor, the Rovers then meet some aged people who provided the Rovers with information about old town was years ago. After the Rovers then we went to Sukhothai World Heritage site to meet the director of WH site and to find out more about the site where the SW Award projects are going to take place. There are 3 main projects planned to renovate the buildings.

This site also has a Scout Camp which is within the UNESCO WH area where there are thousand of people from northern part of ‪#‎Thailand‬ using this site each year unfortunately it had become rundown because currently there is no one taking care of the area and there has been no budget for it. During the Rovers discussion with the director of WH site the Rovers have agreed to renovate the 3 main building on the site. Sukhothai WH site office and the Director will give support to the Rovers during their project.

The Rover will complete their SW Award Voluntary Service over a period of 14 days and aim to finish their Voluntary Service by the end of September.
