The King of Sweden at the Jamboree

His Majesty, the King of Sweden, Carl XVI Gustaf, has taken part in the adventure at the 21st World Scout Jamboree in Hylands Park, UK.

The Swedish Monarch, who plays an active role in World Scouting, visited the site which accommodates more than 40 000 scouts from all around the world.

During the morning, HM King Karl Gustaf XVI met with the members of the World Scout Foundation, of which he is the Honorary Chairman.

HM spent the afternoon at the Jamboree, accompanied by two young Swedish Scouts and was given a tour of the Swedish exhibition in the World Scout Centre, where he discovered some pictures from his early days in Scouting.

After taking part in some of the activities in the Centre, the King visited the World Scouting Exhibition ‘One World, One Promise’ where he was pleased to learn about the results of the Gifts for Peace projects, some of which having been supported by the World Scout Foundation.

Having joined Scouting more than 50 years ago, he still thinks of himself as a Scout and strongly believes that the Movement is still relevant to young people. On the role of Scouting in modern society, he said: “The society still has problems we need to deal with and through Scouting young people can play a constructive role in society and help in their communities.”

Speaking about the Jamboree, he confessed: “To be at a big event like this, where kids have fun and make a lot of new friends, having here more than 150 nations, it’s just fantastic!”

The King of Sweden is one of few who have been awarded the Bronze Wolf, the only distinction of the World Organisation of the Scout Movement, for exceptional services to World Scouting.
