MONGOLIA: Scouts bring out their creative side
Meet Eroolt is a 9-year old Cub Scout who participated in one of Mongolia’s largest boxing contests and was awarded with the “Promising Athlete.” Also, he joined Mongolia’s Taekwondo National Championship Contest and got the bronze medal. His inclination to sports fired up after joining the Ticket to Life (TTL) troop where they hold regular activities that develop different skills like sports as part of a health campaign that also promotes proper hygiene and healthy eating habits.
Eroolt is a member of the Ticket to Life troop in a crowded area in Bayanzurkh district where there is a good mix of over 40 street children and children living with their families. This is the second TTL troop formed in Mongolia in 2009.
From 2011 to 2012, TTL Scouts met constantly. Troop meetings had special programs for learning basic and practical skills.
Caring for the environment is one of the popular activities. Cub Scouts joined a project called “Every Litter is not a Trash” as a tutorial course where they learned how to use litter in many creative ways, either by recycling them or creating new things.
At a local kindergarten, the troop helped in the “Snow Cleaning Day” showing their little brothers and sisters how to be safe.
