Regional Scout Foundation hosts fundraising event

Scouting officials and the business community gathered in a fundraising cocktail held on 16th January 2009 at the Makati Shangri-La, Makati City, Philippines to raise funds for the Asia-Pacific Regional Scout Foundation.

The Foundation supports communities in developing countries in the region through community-based development projects.

Former World Scout Committee Chairman Francisco S Roman thanked the business community for making time in their busy schedules and shared the foundation's goal to continuously build capital funds through membership recruitment to support more projects that would create positive impact on communities.

The fundraising event raised US$12,200 in cash and pledges. Chairman Binay set an example by upgrading his membership with an additional US$5,000. Among the other donors are Metro Bank Foundation, Mr and Mrs Scott Teare from Boy Scouts of America, Makati City Vice-Mayor Ernesto Mercado, Philippine Postal Corporation, Dr William Wells, Hidenori Nishimaki and Regional Treasurer Dr Renato Paras.

The Foundation Management Committee was represented by Vice-President Hj Zainal Abidin. Also present at the event were Regional Scout Committee Vice-Chairman Mohammed Ali Khalid, Committee Members Dr Mohammed Mukhyuddin and Oh Sang Gyoon, Finance Sub-Committee Chairman Horace Ho and some national leaders of the Boy Scouts of the Philippines.
