Street dancing and grand campfire, a display of Scouts’ talents
The street leading to the grand arena was peppered by colours, grace and style as Scouts participated in a parade in the morning of 1st January 2010.
Foreign and local Scouts representing different sub-camps, gorgeously dressed in their native costumes and performed at their very best as they danced their native dances.
Overseas contingents who represented their sub camps were India, Maldives, Thailand and Vietnam.
In the evening, was the time for Grand Campfire held at the grand arena culminating the activities of the day. It served as the heart of the Jamboree where Scouts and Adult Leaders gave their time, showed their skills and talents as they showcased the best of their respective countries and provinces through a cultural dance, songs and Scout yell. Scouts from the Cebu local
council wowed the crowd as they presented the social issue of drug addiction, poverty, calamity and terrorism in a very creative way. Though they use the manner of marching but with the balance, timing and form gave them an edge from other performers. Sub camp Vargas championed the event led by Iloilo and Tacloban contingents from the Philippines and Maldives contingent as the third.
Asia-Pacific Regional Programme Sub Committee Vice-Chairman Rajalingam Ramasamy spoke before the crowd and commented that he was happy to see the Scouts enjoying the Jamboree. He ended with an advise to leave the Jamboree bringing with them the fun memories and the learning they learned and share it to others.
Chairman Binay gave the inspirational message at the Campfire, accompanied by other key Scout Leaders.
For the young people, the night ended with six Scouts representing all sub camps getting ashes from the Grand Campfire and giving it to the Assistant Deputy Camp Chief Dieta.
Back to back with the Camp fire, the International Service Team (IST) had their own reception at their campsite and enjoyed the night with good food. They had their beauty contest where Ms Romana Villegas from Isabela council, Philippines was crowned as Ms IST and K.L. Genwa from India as Mr IST in the presence of Camp Chief and Regional Scout Committee Chairman Jejomar C. Binay and Boy Scouts of the Philippines Secretary General JR Pangilinan.
