President of Palestinian Scout Association visits World Scout Bureau to discuss Gaza relief efforts

The President of the Palestinian Scout Association, Jibril Rajoub, visited the World Scout Bureau in Kuala Lumpur, where he was received by Secretary General Ahmad Alhendawi, Deputy Secretary General David Berg, and other senior members of staff. The meeting focused on the relief efforts to the population in Gaza impacted by the war, with an emphasis on how Scouts contribute to the humanitarian response.
During the discussions, Mr. Rajoub emphasised the devastating impact of the conflict, preventing over 630,000 school-aged children in Gaza from attending school. He highlighted the severe lack of educational support, alongside the immense physical and mental health toll on the population, especially children.
The meeting also explored ways to mobilise Palestinian Scouts to contribute to relief efforts and facilitate aid. Scouts have been actively supporting communities amid the humanitarian crisis by volunteering at shelters and support displaced families, including by facilitating activities for children.
Both parties agreed on the need for humanitarian support and discussed launching a campaign to rally resources and expertise. The campaign will build on existing efforts in the region and focus on empowering Scouts and volunteers to provide community service and psychosocial support, addressing the immediate needs of Gaza’s affected population, with potential expansion to the West Bank.
As part of the proposed campaign, the World Scout Bureau will continue working closely with the Palestinian Scout Association and other agencies to support their relief efforts and ensure that resources are directed to support impacted communities.
The visit and discussions underscored the invaluable role Scouts undertake in times of humanitarian crises, offering crucial support to communities in need.
