Scouts clean-up beaches in Brunei Darussalam

“Moved by love of nature and preserving the beaches for the next generation to enjoy,” were the words of Zainuddin Ishak of Brunei Darussalam as 60 Scouts organised a beach clean-up. They collected over 35 kilos of plastic bottles and 20 kilos of non-plastic waste.

The beach clean-up drive held on 5 July 2020 was one of the activities under the Earth Tribes’ Plastic Tide Turners Challenge Badge. The Brunei Scout Association targets to collect more than 100 kilos of plastic bottles from the shore.

After the launch, 20 durian trees, 100 sugar canes and 20 coconut trees  were planted by Scouts.  In the previous month, Scouts initially collected more than 40 kilos of plastic bottles and 30 kilos of non-plastic wastes.

Chief Commissioner Haji Awang Badar bin Haji Awang Ali said that the programme aims to develop in the Scouts a sense of love and care for the environment. “It’s a continuing education for life,” he said.
