Africa Youth Day: Scout values contribute to character building of young people as honest active citizens for Africa’s development

1 November 2018, Nairobi - Kenya: November 1st is Africa Youth Day – Thank you African Union for recognizing the youth as key agents for social change, economic growth and sustainable development in all areas of African society.

Today, we celebrate the youth of this beautiful, rich and diverse continent. We call for more opportunities for young people to contribute and channel their motivation, energy and creativity towards Africa’s, social and economic advancement.

In addressing this year’s theme of “Raising Youth Voices Against Corruption in Africa”, Scouting offers a value-based non-formal education for young people that helps build in them a character of honesty, resourcefulness and leadership. Young people who go through the Scout programme turn out to be better citizens, who respect the law, others and themselves.

As African Scouts, we have committed to doubling our efforts in contributing to the achievement of sustainable development goals and the AU agenda 2063 in our communities.  While remaining true to the ideals of the African Youth Charter, we call upon all our governments to fully implement its provisions and ensure that corruption which eats away resources that would otherwise benefit millions of jobless and disadvantaged young people is handled firmly and decisively.

We are leaders. We are agents of change. Happy Africa Youth Day
