The Seychelles Scouts Association now a full member of WOSM
The World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM) congratulates The Seychelles Scouts Association (TSSA), the National Scout Organization (NSO) of the Republic of Seychelles, which was declared a full member of WOSM on 14 December 2016. It had been an Accredited WOSM NSO since 14 July 2002.
TSSA was founded in 1927 and flourished rapidly across Mahe, Praslin and La-Digue, the three main islands through churches and schools. Most parishes had Scout troops which formed part of their youth ministry. Until 1977, Scouting was the principal National Youth Movement in the country.
During the second Republic (one-party State), 1977 to 1993, Scouting could not function freely as a youth organisation. The political environment was such that Scouting hibernated. At the dawn of the third Republic in 1993, it re-emerged to find itself among many other national youth movements albeit, an important one.
TSSA will receive its membership certificate at the 41st World Scout Conference in Baku, Azerbaijan next year.
