Scout Method revisited
Revisiting the Scout Method is a way to encourage National Scout Organizations re-emphasise in their activities and projects the implementation of the World Youth Programme Policy, taking into consideration the outcomes of the 1st World Scout Education Congress.
The Asia-Pacific Region (APR) takes the initiative to revisit the Scout Method through a workshop being held at the Tamkang Universtity in New Taipei City, Taiwan on 12 to 15 August 2016. Attended by 45 participants from 13 member countries both from APR and other regions, this workshop also aims to contribute in achieving the targets for innovating Scouting for the 21st century.
“The current 7 items of the Scout Method were defined in the 1990s, more than 20 years ago. To help young people face this fast-changing world, it is time to revisit the Scout Method and make modifications as needed. This is what makes this workshop important”, said Dr. Ie Bin Lian, Workshop Director, at the opening ceremony.
Participants of the workshop will discuss the core values of Scouting, Leadership in Scouting, 21st Century Life Skills in Scouting and Implementation of Scout Method in the Troop/Patrols. They will also validate the proposed concept which will define The Scout Method.
The workshop was made possible with the support and collaboration of Scouts from various groups in Taiwan, namely: Tamkang University as host, Taipei City Council (SOC), Be Perfect Scout Group, Tamsui Scout Foundation and World Scout Bureau/Asia Pacific Support Centre.
The workshop is supported by the members of the APR Programme Sub-Committee led by its Chairman, Devraj Ghimire, with resource person Mari Nakano who leads the Innovating Scouting Workstream of the World Scout Committee and Patrick Hedjlung, a volunteer coordinating the Leadership in Scouting Unit, under the same workstream.
The workshop officially opened with a ceremonial gong led by Dr. Shiaw Shan Lou, Dean of General Affairs of Tamkang University.
