Food For Life impacting lives of Ethiopian orphans

Starting from 2013, the Scout troop of Biruh Tesfa School in Debre Birhan Scout Council has been helping over 180 orphans from poor families in their society. With the proceeds gained from their Food For Life project, the troop provided financial support for the medical treatment and purchase of eye glasses for two Scouts in Addis Ababa. This was made possible by the money earned from the vegetables they produce and sell.
The troop also meets regularly at a special corner in the school called the “Dialogue Corner.” Their “Court of Honour” is one of the best places in the school, a place where members feel safe and at home. It is a place where Scouts, their fellow students and members of the local community discuss issues throughout a traditional Ethiopian coffee making ceremony.
Through initiatives that intertwine with food security and peace dialogue, the troop has contributed greatly to improve the lives of their fellow young people, to help resolve conflicts among students and community members, and to create a better world.
